The first two days of Taiwanese singer-actor-host Alien Huang’s three-day wake were held over the weekend (Sep 19-20) at Lung Yen memorial hall in Taipei, with many of his fellow celebrities showing up to pay their respects.

Although the wake itself is only open to friends, family, and colleagues of the late star, a space was set up in a corner for fans to leave flowers and share in the grieving process.

Among the attendees on the first day was Taiwanese singer and Alien’s former high school sweetheart Rainie Yang, who rushed down from another public event in the afternoon at about 3pm.

She stayed for two-and-a-half hours and left without giving any interviews, but she issued a statement through her manager: “For me, the point of my trip to the mourning hall was to offer support to Alien’s family, to chat with them and give them a hug. Missing Alien is something that can be done at any time.”

Rainie also posted a clarification on her Instagram that evening to reassure everyone that she’s fine, saying, “I was very calm today and didn’t need anyone to support me. The only reason the staff were protecting me and holding on to me was ‘cos they were afraid I would be too overwhelmed by the crowd of reporters, so fans, please don’t worry.”

One of the earliest to arrive at the memorial hall was Alien’s girlfriend, Taiwanese cheerleader Wu Han Qun, also known as Qun Qun, whom he had been dating in secret for a year and a half. According to reports, everyone was trying to lift Qun Qun’s spirits at the wake by sharing funny stories about Alien, talking, laughing, and crying with her.

While most of the attendees on the first day kept a low profile and did not speak to the media, Taiwanese entertainer Jacky Wu, who hosted variety show Mr. Player with Alien, gave an interview in the lobby to share his thoughts when he arrived on the second day of the wake.

Holding back tears, Jacky shared that he and fellow Mr. Player host Kid Lin got together to write a song simply titled ‘?’ the day after Alien’s death. “We can’t accept this. How could you leave us at such a young age?” he said. “It’s a pity that he left us so quickly, so the first two lines I wrote were, ‘How far is heaven? Did you bring enough luggage?’ It still hurts a lot.”

As for the future of Mr. Player, Jacky revealed that there are no plans to replace Alien, and that he and Kid are unable to continue filming at the moment. In fact, the entire show may even come to an end after the last five episodes which feature Alien are aired but they would still need to have a proper discussion with the production team.

Alien, who was also known as Xiao Gui, was found dead at the age of 36 in his home on September 16. An autopsy revealed that his cause of death was an aortic dissection, which occurs when the inner layer of the aorta — the main artery that carries blood away from the heart — tears, leading to a blockage of his blood vessels.
