Alien Huang, Oh In Hye & Sei Ashina, Who Died Within 3 Days Of Each Other, Were All 36

In what can only be described as a very creepy coincidence, Taiwanese media have pointed out that the three stars from three different countries who passed away over the past few days — Taiwan’s Alien Huang, South Korea’s Oh In Hye, and Japan’s Sei Ashina — all had one thing in common: they were 36 years old when they died.

We reckon this is their attempt to create another version of the “27 Club”, a term that was coined to describe an unusual number of famous musicians who died at the tender age of 27. Some of its most well-known ‘members’ include Nirvana rocker Kurt Cobain, British singer Amy Winehouse, and American musician Jimi Hendrix.

Alien, also known as Xiao Gui, was found by his father in the singer-actor’s Sanhe Street residence lying down on the floor outside his bathroom yesterday morning (Sep 16). While the official cause of death has not been confirmed, police are not ruling out the possibility of Alien suffering a heart attack, falling, and injuring himself, as there were bloodstains on the floor and no signs of external force, suspicious drugs, or alcohol.

The news of Alien’s passing has been met with an outpouring of grief from his fellow celebs, including those from Singapore. The former 100% Entertainment host had starred in a couple of local productions including Mediacorp drama Joys of Life and Michelle Chong’s directorial debut Already Famous. He would have turned 37 on November 28.

South Korean actress Oh In Hye, who appeared in films such as Red Vacance Black Wedding and Sin of a Family, was found in a state of cardiac arrest at her home on the morning of September 14 and was rushed to the hospital. Although her condition was reported to have stabilised following emergency procedures, she did not regain consciousness and was pronounced dead later that day.

At the moment, In Hye’s cause of death has not been revealed, but she is suspected to have committed suicide.

Another young life was lost the same day In Hye’s died. On September 14, Japanese actress Sei Ashina reportedly hung herself in her Tokyo apartment and was discovered by her brother, who had dropped by after she did not respond to any of his messages and phone calls the previous day. Both her agency and the police have confirmed that she died by suicide, although the reason for taking her own life has not been determined as she did not leave a note.

Ashina made her acting debut in 2002 and racked up numerous film and television roles, including one in 2007’s Silk alongside American actor Michael Pitt and British actress Keira Knightley. She would have turned 37 on November 22.
