HONG KONG — South Korean actress Oh In-hye died in hospital late Monday (Sept 14) afternoon after being found unconscious in her home earlier that day, reports say.

The 36-year-old had been found unresponsive at her home in the western port city of Incheon at 5am on Monday, the Incheon Yeonsu Police and the Songdo Fire Department said.

She was in a state of cardiac arrest and underwent emergency procedures before being taken to the nearby Inha University Hospital, where she reportedly stabilised at first.

However, South Korean news outlet OSEN reported that Oh did not regain consciousness.

South Korean pop culture portal Dispatch reported that an acquaintance of Oh's had confirmed that the actress had died.

"I hoped she would be able to overcome this crisis. But in the end, she was never able to regain consciousness," the acquaintance told Dispatch.

South Korean pop culture portal AllK-Pop earlier quoted a police spokesman as saying: "Oh In-hye's friend found her and reported it, but we do not know why the friend was there. We currently believe that she [attempted suicide]."

Oh's funeral will be held at Inha University Hospital on Wednesday.

Oh made her screen debut in 2011 with the film Sin of a Family and appeared in movies such as The Plan.

South Korea's entertainment industry has been rocked by a spate of celebrity suicides in recent years, including last year's deaths of K-pop singers Sulli and Goo Hara. SOUTH CHINA MORNING POST
