Indonesian President Joko Widodo to make first official visit to Singapore

SINGAPORE — Indonesian President Joko Widodo will make his first official State Visit to Singapore tomorrow (July 28), said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) today.

SINGAPORE — Indonesian President Joko Widodo will make his first official State Visit to Singapore tomorrow (July 28), said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) today.

Mr Widodo will be in Singapore till Wednesday. He will be accompanied by First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo and a high-level ministerial delegation.

There will be an official welcome ceremony in honour of Mr Widodo tomorrow at the Istana. This will be followed by a call on President Tony Tan Keng Yam and a meeting with Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Mr Lee will host Mr Widodo and his delegation to lunch, while Dr Tan will host a State Banquet in honour of Mr Widodo and his delegation.

Prior to the State Banquet, Dr Tan and Mr Widodo will witness a certificate-presentation ceremony for the Technical and Vocational Training Programme in Ship Building organised by Temasek Foundation and ITE Education Services, in partnership with Batam Polytechnic.

Mr Widodo will also be speaking at the Singapore-Indonesia Business Dialogue tomorrow, organised by the Singapore Business Federation and the Indonesia Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

On Wednesday, Mr Widodo and his wife will attend an orchid-naming ceremony held at the Singapore Botanical Gardens where an orchid, Dendrobium Iriana Jokowi, will be named after them.

During Mr Widodo’s visit, three agreements will be signed between Indonesia and Singapore. They are:

(i) the Memorandum of Understanding on Electronic Government Cooperation between Indonesia’s Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform and Singapore’s Ministry of Communications and Information, which will facilitate the sharing of experiences and knowledge on the development of electronic government;

(ii) the Memorandum of Understanding on Youth and Sports Cooperation between Indonesia’s Ministry of Youth and Sports and Singapore’s Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, which aims to strengthen collaboration on youth and sports development between the two countries;

(iii) the Strategic Cooperation agreement between the Indonesia Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Singapore Business Federation, which aims to enhance economic cooperation between the two business chambers.
