SINGAPORE — United Kingdom Prime Minister David Cameron will be in Singapore tomorrow (July 28) for a two-day official visit, announced the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) today (July 27).

He will deliver a speech at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy tomorrow, and an official welcome ceremony will be held for Mr Cameron on Wednesday. The UK Prime Minister will also call on President Tony Tan Keng Yam and meet with Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who will also host lunch. In addition, Mr Cameron will visit the Singapore Botanic Gardens, where an orchid will be named in his honour.

Mr Cameron will be accompanied by Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills Sajid Javid, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change Amber Rudd, Minister of State for Trade Lord Francis Maude, Minister of State for Small Business Anna Soubry, senior officials, and two business delegations.

The MFA said Mr Cameron’s visit reaffirms the strong bilateral ties between Singapore and the United Kingdom as the two countries commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year.

Mr Cameron, who is on a regional tour in South-east Asia, is presently in Indonesia. He is expected to visit Malaysia as well. The BBC reported that Mr Cameron will discuss in Indonesia and Malaysia how the UK can help to tackle the threat of the Islamic State militant group.
