SINGAPORE — This year’s Cycle Asia Singapore, originally scheduled for next month (Apr 10-12), is cancelled after event organisers Spectrum Worldwide (SWW) failed to secure a title sponsor in time.

In a message posted on the event’s website, SWW said that the event will be postponed to next year, and that all participants and sponsors have been informed of this.

SWW said that the difficult decision was made after it had “exhausted all feasible solutions”, and offered its apology for any inconvenience and disappointment caused as a result.

“After much consideration, it is with great disappointment that we have made the difficult decision to postpone the Cycle Asia Singapore event to April 2016… Spectrum Worldwide has always been committed to delivering safe, top quality experiences for our participants,” the message read.

“Unfortunately the current sponsorship environment has made it very difficult for us to secure a new title sponsor that would enable us to meet these objectives for Cycle Asia Singapore this year.”

In a media release sent this afternoon, SWW said it will give a full refund of the entry fees for the participants who have signed up by May 8. Alternatively, the payment can be credited to next year’s event, or to the Cycle Asia Kuala Lumpur event in June 12-14.

All those who have signed up for the event this year will still receive their limited edition Cycle Asia Singapore cycling jersey, t-shirt, and goody bag from the F1 Pit Building on Apr 10, with more details to be announced shortly.

Spectrum Worldwide and homegrown bank OCBC mutually ended their partnership in July last year. The Cycle Asia Singapore event was previously known as OCBC Cycle Singapore, and held its sixth edition last year to nearly 12,000 participants.

SWW added that it “remains committed to the continued growth of the Cycle Asia network across the region” and has six events confirmed for this year in Malaysia, Philippines and Australia with encouraging response from sponsors and participants.
