A total of 4.49 million passengers passed through Changi Airport last month. From January to October, 44.58 million passenger movements were registered at the airport, 1.0 percent more than the corresponding period last year.
The airport attributed passenger traffic to and from South Asia as a reason behind the increase. Passenger traffic to and from the region rose by 14 per cent year-on-year, with Indian traffic increasing by 17 per cent.
Passenger movements between Singapore and China also rose by 5 per cent, while demand was also strong on services to and from Hong Kong, which increased by 7 per cent.
Airfreight movement also saw an increase last month. There were 159,700 tonnes of cargo handled during the month, a 2.1 per cent increase year-on-year. Overall cargo shipments from January to last month grew by 0.5 per cent year-on-year to 1.53 million tonnes while aircraft movements were stable at 283,650 for the same period.
As of Nov 1, more than 100 airlines operate at Changi Airport, connecting Singapore to over 300 cities in some 70 countries and territories worldwide. An aircraft takes off or lands at Changi roughly once every 90 seconds.
